Hurricane Melissa left many communities across Jamaica facing damaged homes, lost livelihoods, and disruptions to essential services. Among those hit the hardest are LGBTIQ+ Jamaicans who often have limited access to traditional support systems during moments of crisis.
Equality for All Foundation, in partnership with CariFLAGS and ECADE, has launched a crowdfunding initiative to help fill that gap and extend targeted assistance to those who need it most.
What the Fund Supports
Contributions go directly toward practical, immediate needs identified by affected community members, including:
-
Communications costs to stay connected and reach emergency services
-
Medical and mental health support
-
Housing repairs and safe temporary accommodation
-
Subsistence expenses such as food, clean water, and essential supplies
These efforts are coordinated alongside ongoing community outreach to ensure support reaches individuals who may otherwise be overlooked in broader relief efforts.
Why This Work Matters
In the aftermath of a disaster, access to care is uneven. For many LGBTIQ+ Jamaicans, existing vulnerabilities—housing insecurity, economic instability, or strained family networks—can make recovery even more difficult. This initiative responds to those realities, offering a pathway for the wider public to stand in solidarity and help rebuild lives disrupted by the storm.
How to Contribute
Donations can be made through the link in the Equality for All Foundation’s bio or by scanning the QR code featured in the campaign materials. Every contribution strengthens the community’s ability to recover and rebuild.
